The Life And Martyrdom Of St Oliver Plunkett
Mrs Patricia McKenna, teacher at St Oliver Plunkett’s PS, Forkhill, came to speak to the Primary 6 and 7 children about the life and martyrdom of Oliver, who lived and prayed in this area 400 years ago. He became a saint in 1975, becoming the first Irish saint in 700 years. The children enjoyed the presentation, asked interesting questions and blessed themselves with the relic of St Oliver Plunkett. They all said the Prayer to St Oliver Plunkett together (for peace) and blessed themselves with the relic which Mrs McKenna had brought. One of the pupils – Grace – made a St Brigid’s cross for Mrs McKenna and Mrs McKeown presented her with flowers. Mrs McKenna said she really enjoyed her visit to Dromintee Primary School.
