Michael J Murphy Winter School
Dromintee Primary School were invited guests at the Michael J Murphy Winter School where Mullaghbane Primary School, who have been working on a local history project with celebrity historians Una Walsh and Kevin Murphy, launched their i-movies project. 6 children presented their i-movie on a local heritage sight. The link with the oral tradition of Michael J Murphy’s folklore heritage was mixed with modern technology when the children presented wearing their QR codes on their tops. You can see from the photograph how these work. Their teacher, Ms Paula Mulkerns, Vice-Principal introduced each child and their project. She gave a special welcome to the pupils and principal from Dromintee PS. Ms Mulkerns and Mrs McKeown were in the same class in Dromintee Primary School and used see Michael J Murphy walk past the school regularly.
Musical entertainment was provided by the pupils from St Mary’s and local stories of Fionn and the Fianna were told by actors in period costume.
The Mayor, Mrs Roisin Mulgrew, thanked the children for coming to share their traditions and rewarded each child with a selection box. A big treat for the pupils was in store when past pupil Megan Fearon joined the children for lunch.
Thank you to all at Tí Chulainn for your hospitality and warm friendliness.
