Earth Science Week 6th -15th March
To celebrate Earth Science Week, Newry Mourne & Down District Council, in conjunction with the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland are hosting a 'Science Festival' in different locations throughout the district. The festival is focusing on the extremely diverse geology and landscape of the Mournes, Ring of Gullion and Strangford Lough & Lecale, which are all included in their current bid for UNESCO Global Geopark status.
The P7 class were very lucky to attend the Science Festival this afternoon in Slieve Gullion Forest Park. They were given the opportunity to learn about how geology and landscape was formed through a series of interactive workshops. They really enjoyed taking part in the practical activities of; exploding volcanoes, predicting earthquakes, making & tasting their own toothpaste, glacier racing, rock detectives and a fossil factory.
