Cumann na mBunscol Malachy McGeeney Cup Final
The boys school team were victorious in the Cumann na mBunscol final of the Malachy McGeeney Large Schools competition. They first played the Christian Brothers’ PS, Armagh (enrolment of 393 pupils) and had a good win. They went on to play Tannaghmore PS, Lurgan (enrolment of 640) in the final of the competition and had a superb win. The school won the medium schools competition last year and were deserved winners of the large school competition this year. The boys showed skill and motivation throughout the day. A large number of supporters went to the Athletic Grounds in Armagh to support them. The school is justly proud of the team of 10 who represented the school on the day. Mona McGeeney handed over the cup to captains Fergus Toale and James McBennett who proudly held it up with the team at the iconic ground. It is a great honour to take part in the competition and to get to the county home ground. It is even more of an honour when the silverware comes home to Dromintee PS with us. We are indebted to Dromintee GAC for the use of their mini-bus and to Aidan O’Rourke for high levels of commitment to our school’s physical literacy programme. The team had a heroes’ welcome when they returned to the school.
