Virtual Tour Of South Armagh With Una Walsh

27th Oct 2017

Local historian and South Armagh tour guide, Una Walsh, conducted a virtual tour of South Armagh with the pupils from primaries 5, 6 and 7.  They visited Slieve Gullion, saw photographs and heard stories of the passage graves from 6,000 years ago and stories of Fionn MacCumhail.  They then travelled through Ballykeel dolmen, Ballymacdermot Court Cairn, Clontygora court Tomb, Lisleitrim fort and crannog and Craigmore Viaduct.  They heard stories, geology, historical stories and anecdotes from Derrymore House, Bessbrook village and the linen mills, Camlough Lake and Killeavy Old Churches (with stories of the Vikings raid there) before moving closer to home with tales from Killeavy Castle (Bell’s Castle), St Luke’s Church of Ireland, Moyry Castle (a horrible histories story) and  Kilnasagart Standing Stone.  Una was impressed by the knowledge and questions from the pupils in Dromintee Primary School.  Everyone agreed it had been a truly wonderful tour.  Thank you Una.
