STEM Club - One, Two, Tree

7th Dec 2016

Week three was called One, Two, Tree and was all about plants. We learned about the scientists Watson and Crick. They discovered the double helix shape of DNA. We began by checking our flower experiment that we set up last week. The white flower that was in the water remained white, and the white flower that was in the pink food colouring turned pink! Next, we looked at all the parts of a flower. We learned about the petals, stem, anther and filament. We took each of the individual parts and assembled them back together. We chatted about the ideal conditions for plant growth and set up a fair test using cress seeds. We will give some seeds sunlight and water, some sunlight and no water, others will receive water and no sunlight and Ryan and Jack wanted to explore what will happen to seeds with no sunlight or water. We will check on our seeds next week to find out what happens. Finally, we set up our weekly experiment. We put one egg into water and another egg into the same amount of vinegar – we have come up with some very exciting predictions so we’ll let you know what happens!
